Face It

A secret is a secret. Sometimes it is kept to ones self and other times we share it with someone we trust. Someone close to me recently changed her Facebook status to "In a Relationship". Since it was a secret, she blocked her family from viewing her facebook wall and status. Much to her surprise, her parents found out and confronted her about it. They told her she is not allowed to have a boyfriend yet because she is still too young. So, as any young blood her age, she starts talking to her friends and tries to find out who told her parents. Hmmm... geez... She has like 400 friends on facebook and maybe 60-100 people who she actually really knows and she is also friends with her cousins, aunt, and uncle. Hmmm... gee, I wonder how her parents found out.

The lesson:

Just last week someone sent me a friend request on facebook. I actually knew this person I couldn't help but ask myself, why would this person add me. I used to go to school with this person. Then she moved away. Then she moved back to my school after a year. Being the jolly person that I am, I smiled and welcomed her back and all I got in return was a cold stare and an elevated eyebrow. I found out much later that she was angry with me because the guy she currently likes happened to be my ex boyfriend. But I just don't get it, he was my ex so why hate me right? So anyhow, when we graduated I would run into her all over the place and she would just always give me such a killer glare. I just shrugged it off. Then now, all of the sudden she adds me on Facebook and even "like" a couple albums. Weird much? Well hmmm... Maybe she wants to patch things up? I have no idea.

And lastly, I uploaded my mom's birthday photos on her Facebook account. I also uploaded the same album to my own Facebook account. When I was at work my phone would not stop making noises from all the Facebook notifications I had gotten. So, I open my facebook account on my phone and guess what?! I had gotten 25 notifications some of which were "likes" and some comments. And guess who they were from? All 25 notifications were from my mom. Awwwww! She is too cute.

Anyhow, happy mid week people.

That's cute about your mom being so active on FB. Sometimes, for no good reason, girls don't like other girls who are pretty and upbeat. It annoys them for some reason. I don't understand it, but there it is!

I know what you mean. That's why I blocked the people I can't stand. Hahaha!

It's like real life. You don't have to tell someone something. You tell someone else and then they just might tell. I don't know why some people have such problems understanding that.

yeah FB is a tricky business, I hate when people add me who I know don't really like me. I want to be like... no actually I don't want to give you a full access pass to my life!!! That's really cute about your Mom, haha, she liked the photos!

All I can say is if you you went to school with someone and you weren't friends, or became enemies, then don't friend them or like them or accept their friend request. What's the point? You didn't get along or had issues in school so why revisit the problems in adulthood?

Such wise, wise words! I rhink especially when you're in a profession you should be careful of what you post. And when it comes to weird friend request: it tends to happen a lot, huh? Some guy who teased me a LOT in elementary school and who I barely talked to in high school decided to add me ... I ignored it since there was no point. But total AWWWW! at your mom liking all the photos. My grandma does that and it makes me smile :)

There are no secrets on FB! Funny that, I was just chatting to someone about internet profiles being too information...

Secrets on facebook will get out eventually. People gotta learn that!

(My sister has more "Friends" than I do. Ha! As if!)

I think Facebook is a blessing and a curse. I believe people shouldn't share secrets if they don't want everyone to eventually find out too!

It's girls like that, that I deny their request. I just cleared a lot of my "friends" out. If I didn't or hadn't spoke to someone in a long time they got the ax.

true, true. facebook has become such a part of our lives that sometimes I wish the whole thing disappeared.

i totally agree, if you don't want to talk about, do not share it on an online forum.

in a related note, if you are not prepared to talk to your parents about a relationship, perhaps you are not mature enough to have one. this is a broad generalization, but, provided your relationship with your parents is stable and emotionally fulfilling, you should feel prepared to share.

i absolutely agree. don't want people all up in your business, steer clear of fb hahaha

LOL This is so true!! People do that all the time. Just because you aren't "friends" with that person, does not mean that what you posted isn't public information. Anything that is submitted into the world wide web is an open playground for whoever wants to get their hands on it!

Good ole facebook. Literally everything you said in this post I agree with.

That made me laugh :) I think we all have one... or a dozen [but hopefully not!!] facebook friends that leave cryptic status updates, post inappropriate, and add people for the wrong [read: creepy] reasons. Good old facebook.

But Moms on facebook - they're just the cutest :) I can so picture my mom doing that. They're the greatest.

And thank you for your kind comment a minute ago!

hehe your mom is cute! My mom is the same way - she goes on these 'like' sprees once in a while. There's no stopping her :)

Facebook has definitely gotten a little overboard. I do not like that now your friends' friends can comment on pictures that you post. Even if you set it to "Friends Only". Damn Facebook.

So true! People overshare on FB. I'm all for freedom to express, but somethings are better off left private, no?

Maybe she wants to patch things up...or maybe she just wants to keep tabs on you?

That second picture with the husband and wife updating their Facebook status to "married" TOTALLY happened at a wedding I photographed this past weekend. In fact, they incorporated the process into their ceremony! They had two iPads sitting on a table and at one point they walked over and updated their status' at the same time. As silly as it seems (I wouldn't do it, personally...), it was pretty cute of them!

hahaha that's so true. I hate when someone posts a status about being sad or something, and you say "why are you sad?" and they say "I don't want to talk about it on Facebook"...It's like , Really?!
