Words

Growing up, I've always believed that if you don't have anything nice to say, you really shouldn't say anything. Sometimes words really do hurt more than sticks and stones.

I had a get together with a friend of mine the other day. Just as we were laughing and catching up, a familiar face came to say hi to us. It was a guy that we used to go to school with. After saying hi, he looked at my friend and commented how she looks like she's really gained a few pounds since the last time he ran in to her. Oh boys, they are just so insensitive! My friend smiled, but deep down I know she felt bad. She just shrugged it off, but later she was asking me if she really did look like she gained weight. She was also telling me how hard she has been working out at the gym and that she's even skipping meals. Poor thing.

Lesson of the story. Be careful of what you say to others, it might not mean anything to you but it could mean the world to someone else. As much as possible, I like to build people up, there's too much negativity in this world and sometimes an encouraging word or a show of appreciation really does go a long way.

Amen Mel! Too many people are sensitive about what others say to them, but thoughtless about what they say to others. You're a special person my friend, =)

My mom always told me," If you can't say something positive, just don't say anything"...and that always work for me...
Probably your friend is an amazing girl, and she is so much more than her size, but the bad comments are always so easy to believe

Have the best weekend, dear!

Big hugs!

Why did niether of you say something to him?

We need to pull people up on what they say, especially when it's rude! They may or may not be saying it to be rude, but they should know it was not welcome or wanted.

The thing about people you used to see is, when you finally see each other after a long time, they will make some remark about your physical appearance, most often your weight. It annoys me that my high school friends, after we don't see each other for years, their first comment to me is "You've gotten really fat!"

It's really frickin' insensitive how even distant acquaintances do that when they don't even know you.

Very well said! I say the exact same thing.. once you say something mean, you can't ever take it back so think it through before you speak! Thanks so much for visiting my blog and for following me. Following you back :)
